Alois and Berniece Kruse
are the parents of a large family, most residing in San
Antonio, Texas. Alois is the family’s 93 year old
patriarch and Berniece the loving mother/grandmother who
passed away in 2005.
Alois’
parents are
Nickolaus Kruse,
born in Heuthen Germany in 1870, and
Anna Maria Hillmeyer,
born in Bracken Texas (near San Antonio) in 1885.
Nickolaus’ parents
Engelhart Kruse &
Marianna Rindermann, with Nickolaus and
siblings, migrated from Germany to the USA in 1884. The
Hillmeyer family, Alois Hillmeyer &
Magdalena Stummer and oldest daughter,
migrated from the Bavarian region of Germany to the USA
also in 1884. Both families settled on farms near the
small town of Selma Texas east of San Antonio.
Berniece Biesenbach Kruse’s parents are
Walter Biesenbach, born on a farm near Converse Texas in 1895 and
Alma Graf
born in San Antonio Texas in 1902. Walter’s
parents are Robert Biesenbach &
Pauline Lieck. Alma’s parents are
Otto Graf and
Lena Ackermann. The Biesenbach family
were early pioneers migrating from Dusseldorf Germany
between 1846 and 1854.
Alois Kruse and Berniece Biesenbach married in 1938.
They lived on the
Nickolaus Kruse farm
near Selma Texas until 1947 when they moved to the city.
They built their new
home on the south side of San Antonio
where Alois still lives today. Their marriage produced
10 children (4 sons & 6 daughters from 1940 to
1961), 32 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. The
family has its annual reunion in June when games,
drinks, food, and “together again”
conversations stimulate family ties for the young and
the old.
